The Test of English as a Foreign Language (or TOEFL, pronounced “toe- full’) evaluates the potential
success of an individual to use and understand standard American English at a college level and is the
most widely accepted English-language test in the world. No matter where you want to study, the TOEFL
test can help get you there. It is required for non- native applicants at many US and other English
speaking colleges and universities. TOEFL score is accepted by more than 5,000 colleges, universities,
and licensing agencies in 90 countries. The TOEFL is the product of the Educational Testing Service
(ETS).
The Generation of TOEFL
The TOEFL CBT being the second generation and the iBT the third, the first generation TOEFL PBT is still
being offered in Nepal. Upon the launch of TOEFL iBT in 2006 it is popularly being taken by the Nepalese
aspirants willing to study in English speaking countries.
Take the TOEFL® test. Go anywhere.
If you are planning to study abroad, the TOEFL test is the one test that can take you anywhere. In fact,
more institutions accept TOEFL test scores than any other test scores in the world--more than 6,000
colleges, universities and licensing agencies in 110 countries, to be exact.
Demonstrate your English-language skills.
The TOEFL® iBT measures how well you read, listen, speak and write in English and use these skills
together in the university classroom. For example, you might read a passage or listen to a lecture, and
then write or speak about what you learned.

eligible for admission to virtually any institution in the world — including the top colleges and
universities in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia and New Zealand. The TOEFL test gives you more
flexibility on when, where and how often you can take the test, and more , than any other
English-language test in the world.

TOEFL iBT is a new version of the TOEFL. It is an Internet-based test (iBT) delivered in secure testing centre
around the world. It is available only to those areas where Internet Access is available. The examinee has to

|
The Paper-and- Pencil Based Test of English as a Foreign Language is called the TOEFL PBT. This test is
given in areas where the iBT and CBT are not available. The PBT tests essentially the same skills as the
CBT, albeit with some differences, noticeably the number of questions (which is higher in the PBT) and
